Our History
For almost 20 years Matthew and Krystina McNeil, the founders of Christian Midwife Initiative (CMI), have invested their lives to oversee one of the largest charity-based maternity clinics in Asia, and to train Christian midwives to serve as cross-cultural midwife missionaries.
CMI is the fruit of a long history of studying mission strategy and witnessing the incredible impact that a Christian midwife has in developing relationships with her patients, including the subsequent favor gained with the entire family. When Christian midwives are integrated into cross cultural mission strategy great strides are made in reaching people for Christ.
"CMI is the fruit of a long history of studying mission strategy and witnessing the incredible impact that a Christian midwife has in developing relationships with her patients…"
Our approach to training midwife missionaries during these past many years is to partner national Christian midwives and western missionary candidates entirely within the context of a cross-cultural mission experience (as seen in this picture at left).</p>
This cultural immersion allows for greater understanding by the westerner to identify with the needs of the patient living in a developing world environment and embrace cultural sensitivity.
What we have witnessed throughout our history has compelled us to integrate midwives into cross-cultural mission strategy.
